The Montecristi Express was realized in 2008 (and a part of 2009) by Liceo de Lideres del Nuevo Milenio, with the objective to collect proposals of young to the new constitution was starting. It was a route of 24 cities in our country to recollect the request of the population sector toward The Constituent Assembly.

In each place, they will carry out forums with 50 guys representing schools, high schools, clubs, churches, neighborhoods, and other institutions. Those meetings finished with a musical-artistic festival in public squares, wherein a big canvas everybody in the place was writing their proposals. Clave de Sur was in charge of these art festivals and we also participate as facilitators n the workshops.

Hoping to be truly heard by children, adolescents, youth, and people with disabilities, today in The Constituent Assembly, in Montecristi the project “The Montecristi Express” will be launched.

The project’s global idea is to visit around 30 cities in the country where we collect the proposals of the most vulnerable in the country (before mentioned it), to start to respect their rights into The Political Constitution of Ecuador.

The Express will visit Ambato on January 23th and later the organizations of children, adolescents, youth, and people with disabilities will have the opportunity to give their approaches to be delivered, between April and May, to the assembly members.

Jose Luis Echeverria, the project coordinator, points out that the recurring request in the sessions that he has kept with the guys of other cities is having real participation in the making decisions, from the academic board of the schools until in the town halls.

The Lyceum has seven regional offices, each one work on specific topics of the final proposal: Rights and Economy (Quito), Education (Loja), Peace (San Lorenzo), Participation (Guayaquil), Multiculturalism (Ambato), Montubios (Pedro Carbo), and Culture (Riobamba).

The tour of the guys will start the next Monday; the next day will do the official presentation in Alfaro City, the Constituent’s headquarters, where they have an appointment with table seven (Development Regime).

The final document will be delivered to the assembly members on March 27th. The tour is sponsor by El Instituto Nacional de la Niñez y la Familia (Innfa), Avina’s ONG, and FIA; additionally, other linked organizations with the children and adolescents’ rights.
