Due to the pandemic, our music vacation course was abruptly canceled in March, and the Musicians Without Borders ( Musiker ohne Grenzen ) volunteers had to return to their country.

A few weeks later, in the midst of the crisis that the city was experiencing due to COVID-19, some volunteers from Germany proposed to give virtual classes of piano, singing, violin, guitar, bass, improvisation and trombone; friends who had been in Guasmo in 2011, 2018 and 2019 participated.

Although we couldn’t reach a large population we tried to include both old and new participants in these free classes. We have 2 instructors for singing, 2 for piano, 4 for violin, 2 for guitar, bass and improvisation and 1 who teaches trombone. Classes are individual and are given by video call on WhatsApp, Zoom or Skype

One of the objectives is that outstanding students such as the children Esthercita and Adrián Vargas do not lose the practice of the instrument and continue to improve their talent. Unfortunately not everyone has an instrument at home and we do not have many volunteers who have time available, which is somewhat limited by the time difference between Germany and Ecuador.

Classes continue until the end of this month, on the one hand because the volunteer instructors have their university exams in Germany and also to re-evaluate how to continue with these or to finally reopen the facilities.

{:}{:es}Debido a la pandemia nuestro curso vacacional de música fue cancelado abruptamente en el mes de marzo, y los voluntarios de Músicos sin Fronteras (Musiker ohne Grenzen) tuvieron que volver a su país. Pocas semanas después, en medio de la crisis que vivía la ciudad por el COVID-19, algunos voluntarios desde Alemania se propusieron para dar clases virtuales de piano, canto, violín, guitarra, bajo, improvisación y trombón; participaron amigos que habían estado en Guasmo en el año 2011, 2018 y 2019. Aunque no podíamos abarcar mucha población intentamos incluir tanto a participantes antiguos como nuevos en estas clases gratuitas. Contamos con 2 instructoras para canto, 2 para piano, 4 para violín, 2 para guitarra, bajo e improvisación y 1 que enseña trombón. Las clases son individuales y se dan por videollamada de WhatsApp, Zoom o Skype. Uno de los objetivos es que alumnos destacados como los niños Esthercita y Adrián Vargas no pierdan la práctica del instrumento y sigan mejorando su talento. Lastimosamente no todos cuentan con un instrumento en casa y no contamos con muchos voluntarios que tengan disponibilidad de tiempo, el que es un poco limitado por la diferencia horaria entre Alemania y Ecuador. Las clases continúan hasta finales de este mes, por un lado porque los instructores voluntarios tienen sus exámenes universitarios en Alemania y también para reevaluar cómo continuar con estas o reabrir las instalaciones finalmente.
